Winter Newsletter

By now you should have received our winter newsletter giving everyone an update on how the library is doing. Inside this newsletter is our Gimme Five fund raising letter. If you haven't had a chance to read it, please take some time to read about CFL and all the wonderful things we have to offer community families. Without your help we would not be able to keep our doors open and our collections growing and dynamic. Your continued support is very appreciated!

Inside the newsletter you will find some very interesting information about the library and our annual Gimme Five fund raising letter. If you value your community library, please take the time to read our newsletter. We consider libraries to be a necessity, not a luxury!

Story Time for Children

Children's Story Time began October 5 with 17 children attending. This is the largest size group we've had yet! The children all listened to stories and did an age-appropriate craft. They all brought a parent with them so there were lots of helping hands during craft time...thanks to everyone! Story Time is held each Tuesday morning beginning at 10:00

Join the Poetry Circle

Everyone is welcome! Each week we read and enjoy a selection of timeless poems from the world's master poets. We stay with each poem, share our responses, and discover how the words come alive and speak to us. Drop-ins are welcome. This is poetry beyond the usual. We meet Mondays from 10:30-12:00, but the schedule may change so call to confirm time: 541-937-0150

Summer Reading Program Ends

On the final day of the SRP we had a water party and picnic. The kids loved getting wet in the water relay and water balloon toss! They also liked getting our teen volunteers wet whenever they got the chance!! We have been putting goldfish crackers into a goldfish bowl throughout the program - one for each 15 minutes of reading - and the kids all guessed how many crackers total to win a prize. There were 1116 crackers total! All the kids really read up a storm and turned their logs in each week. And, thanks to our generous supporters, the Libri Foundation, Cow Creek Umpqua Indian Foundation, Chambers Family Foundation, and the Lane Library League we were able to offer many new titles to both the little ones and the young adults. Congratulations to everyone who attended the program.

Book Sale Continues

Many thanks go out to everyone who attended our book sale on July 25! Lots of books and other materials found good homes, but we still have many, many selections. The book sale will continue, during open hours, throughout September (depending upon weather) and new items are being added to the continually so stop by and check it out!

Summer Reading Kids are Stellar!

Our summer reading program has been going along swimmingly so far! Water is the main theme this year and the kids have watched flowers turn color, made marbled paper from watercolors and shaving cream and created many other works of art with the help of water. Everyone is reading up a storm, turning reading logs in each week, and adding goldfish (crackers!) to the fishbowl. Who will guess closest to the actual number of goldfish in the bowl?? We will find out at our last program day, next Tuesday morning, during our final day festivities! Many thanks, again to the Cow Creek Umpqua Indian Foundation and the Lane Library League for their sponsorship of this educational and fun-filled program.

New Books

Just added to the children's chapter book collection are two new books in the Diary of a Wimpy Kid series. We also have added to the first 5 books in the Percy Jackson series to our young adult fiction section. They have been very busy books, being checked in and out a lot in the past few weeks!

Volunteers Are The Best!

The next time you visit the library, take a moment to thank the volunteer working to keep the doors open so you can come in to check out materials. Our volunteers are very dedicated community members, some of whom have been working for over 8 years to keep this library open and dynamic. At this time we have 15 people who take time out of their busy schedules to keep our services accessible to you. Let them know how much you appreciate them!

Grants!

We would like to thank the Chambers Family Foundation for their generous support of the library. Their grant funding has enabled us to continue offering a quality children's story time program each week and helps to make our Summer Reading Program one of the most successful in rural Lane County. We would also like to thank the Libri Foundation for their award to the library of a BOOKS FOR CHILDREN grant which will enable us to add 60 books to our children's collections. Both these awards go such a long way toward helping the library continue offering quality programs and dynamic collections. Our community is very fortunate to have such wonderful supporters!
